This is a guide to Chocobo Hot and Cold.
This is the biggest side quest in game. It took me hours and hours to complete.
Anyway, go to Chocobo forest North East of Lindlum near South Gate. There Mene
will introduce you to Choco (your chocobo). Then you will have the option to play
Chocobo Hot and Cold. It costs 60 Gil for a minute but is well worth it, especially
later in the game.
ITEMS
Ghysahl Greens - Stand on Chocobo tracks and use them to summon Choco to
your current position. Also cures Berserk.
Dead Peppers - Use to get to treasure at Dive Spots and Cracks.
CHOCOBO FOREST Act I
Chocographs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 - 2 Chocograph Pieces
Like FF7, your chocobo has different abilities where terrain is
concerned. These abilities are found as you find the locations on the Chocographs.
Chocographs can be found by playing Hot + Cold in the forest. Once they are found
they will contain hints on them to locations where treasure can be found.
The locations are listed and numbered on the map below. You must find Chocograph
number 4 before you can proceed to Chocobo Lagoon.
CHOCOBO LAGOON Act I
Chocographs 7, 9, 12, 15
Once you have the Blue Reef ability you can go to the Lagoon and get all the
Chocographs there. To get there, get to the green island to the west of the
Lagoon and ride Choco through the shallow water to the entrance which is a
large cave in the side of an island. Once here, you can only dig in the shallow
water and Mene limits your time to half a minute so the best way to dig is to
dig in front of you then behind before you go somewhere else. Once you have all
the Chocographs and the Red Mountain ability, go back to the Forest.
CHOCOBO FOREST Act II
Chocographs 13, 14, 16, 19 - 2 Chocograph Pieces
With you Red Mountain ability, you should be able to climb to the higher ledges
in the Forest and find the treasure there although there are still Chocographs on
the lower part. Once all the treasure is yours including the Blue-Black Ocean
ability, make you way back to the Lagoon.
CHOCOBO LAGOON Act II
Chocographs 17, 18, 22 - 2 Chocograph Pieces
Now that you have the Ocean ability, you can dig in the deeper part of the water.
Once you have the remaining two Chocograph pieces, you will find they join up to
form Chocograph 20 which is where you will find the Gold Flying ability!!! With this,
you can go anywhere but you can only take off and land in a forest.
CHOCOBO AIR GARDEN
Chocographs 21, 23, 24
To get here, fly to the center of the world map and look for a round shadow over the
water. Use a dead pepper and you will be transported there. Take note that once you have
been there once, the shadow will move to one of 4 locations on the world map. Use the map on
this page to find them.
This is the location of the final three Chocographs and also the ultimate boss
in FF9, Ozma. Do not fight Ozma until all party has levels of 80 or above, I had 76,
74, 73, 74 but thats me!!!. Once you have found the final Chocographs, get out of there
and find the Dive Spots (bubbles in the water) and Cracks (cracks in the side of a mountain!.
There is a secret Dive Spot where Shimmering Island used to be, use a dead pepper here and
you should find the Ultima Weapon for Zidane!
CHOCOBO PARADISE
Take Choco back to his homeland!!! To get here, find an island on the very North West of the
World Map. Use a dead pepper on the crack here to get in. There is nothing relevant to do here
you can just mess around and talk to all of Choco's friend and the Fat Chocobo.
MOGNET CENTRAL
Find the island with the crack on it North of Kuja's place. Use a dead pepper to get in.
Here you will find the heart of Mognet's operations but the machine is broken and they need
an item to fix it but they can't remember what it's called. Hmm, I think it's gonna have to be
down to you to get it for them! You will have to deliver message to moogles all over the world.
Well here we go, First find Kupo in Alexandria, then take his message to Mogryo in Black Mage Village
who will give you one for Kumool in Ipsen's Castle. Deliver Kumool's mail to Mois who can now be
found in Qu's Marsh near Lindblum outside Fossil Roo. He thinks that Noggy over in Daguerro will
know. Take Noggy's message back to Kupo but where would I find Superslick? Answer? Well go to the
theater and Ruby should have some. Take it back to Mognet Central where Artemicion will take it off
your hands. Ahh, Mognet is back to normal again!!!
